Home Methane Production – Free power without the Odor Really

The term bio gas or methane, has been around for a long long time and it is once again a promising source of free energy in a home where waste (the stuff you flush down the toilet) is fed to billions of bacteria that in turn produces methane, a highly flammable gas that if released to the atmosphere would be like sending energy to the clouds. It is also a greenhouse gas which makes disposal of the gas for other, more greener uses a must. Commercial farms have realized the benefits of self-power generation through bio gas digesters and the same can be said for the home, especially large ones with many occupants. Laboratories in waste management have been developing ways of harnessing this free energy source, minus the foul odor that is, turning it into free energy by first collecting the waste materials, placing them in special holding tanks where the solid waste eating bacteria thrive in, producing the methane gas we need. The leftovers can be composted along with many other green and brown stuff from in and around the house, made available to aid in maintaining the yard or garden.
With technology from the many high-tech and large scale commercial firms filtering down to the home level, allowing normal household waste to b processed into clean and free energy, it surely is a promising step for us to help in the re-greening of the vast concrete jungles we now call home.
